Topic: Spending Time with Our Grandparents

Why is it important to spend time and interact with the older generation?
Spending time with our grandparents is very important. They have so much knowledge and experience. They tell us stories from the past and teach us good values. They also give us love, care, and support. When we talk to them, they feel happy and loved. We can learn many life lessons from them that are not written in books.
A Story from My Grandfather’s Childhood
Title: The Village Without Lights
One evening, I sat with my grandfather and asked him about his childhood. He smiled and began to tell me a story.
“When I was your age,” he said, “we lived in a small village with no electricity. We used oil lamps at night. I used to walk 3 kilometers every day to school without shoes! We had only one teacher who taught all the subjects under a big tree. There were no school bags or pencil boxes—just a slate and chalk.”
He also told me how they used to play games like gilli-danda, kabaddi, and marbles. “We didn’t have mobile phones,” he laughed, “but we had real friends and so much fun outdoors.”
I listened carefully and felt amazed. His life sounded so different and full of adventure. I realized how lucky we are to have all the comforts today.
What I Learned
From this story, I learned to be thankful for the things I have. I also understood the value of hard work, simplicity, and enjoying the little moments in life.
