Ajanta Caves The world-famous caves of Ajanta are located at a distance of 106 kilometers from the center of Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state and about 61 kilometers from Jalgaon station of Central Railway. 6 kilometers before the Ajanta pilgrimage is Fardapur village through which visitors can visit these caves. Cave No. 17: This is Bihar Cave. It has more paintings than all the other caves. The famous painting of this cave is of Rahul Samarpan, in which Yashodhara has been depicted offering his only son when Lord Buddha asked for a child.
In other paintings of Ajanta caves, the female form is a symbol of universal beauty. Apart from the female figure, animals, birds, trees, vines, flowers, leaves, ponds, Gandharva, Kinnar, names, snakes, Apsaras, Garuda etc. have also been depicted skillfully by Ramraj ji in colors like kajal, blue, ocher etc. The mix of colors is elegant and has been applied using tempera technique.
Ellora
Ellora is situated 29 km from Aurangabad in the state of Maharashtra and 135 km from Ajanta. The local name of Ellora is Verul. Ellora Board is the holy Trivedi of all the three religions, Buddhist, Brahmin and Jain.
There are total 30 caves here, cave number 1 to cave number 12 are Buddhist caves, number 13 to 29 are caves related to Brahmin religion, Dushasan Khyati cave number 1 to 34 are Jain caves.
This cave was constructed between the ninth century and the 12th century, thus work continued in Ellora for 900 years. The most prominent Kailash temple of Lord Shiva of Ellora is in cave number 16.
It was built by Rashtrakuta king Krishna. It was constructed by cutting a huge mountain of 300 feet long and 50 feet wide. 135 people worked in it.
